The problem of uncontrolled information

The internet service iam.no has started a debate in Norway about the use of information on the internet. iam.no has made a database of almost every citizen in Norway and collected all available information about them. They have:

They have done nothing wrong in my opinion. All this information is freely published on the internet, given out without restrictions.

So how’s to blame that we have a site that nobody likes? A site that most people dislike and politicians would like to shut down.

I would say that the sources is the problem.
People, private companies and the public sector publish personally information without thinking it  through.

Source:
Public sector publish personally information about your tax and income freely without any usage regulation. This is one of the most problematic issues, because this can so easily be misused.  I would like to se that the public sector publish this in a  more controlled manor. They could give journalist access to anonimized data for statistics and other use and publish the list with names behind a the public sectors authentication solution MinID. This would give people access to the information without spreading it uncontrolled.

Source:
Private companies should not publish any personally information without active consent from the user. This is a important principal giving the user control.

Source:
And then you have the biggest source of them all, our self. How much information do we give out without making sure of how it will be used, and by whom it will be used? We gladly add a profile picture to a service, and give them consent to publish our name and make it freely available to everybody. Because we would like to be found by lost friends.

But when services like iam.no come along and connect EVERYTHING we shout that they must stop.

So please stop killing the messenger, and look at the source instead.
